Who are you living for? Pt 2

Watch this scene from Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. Sidney Poirtier's character introduced his parents to his fiance who is a white woman. It is 1967 and he is a doctor. Its a very good movie and this is one of my favorite scenes....

Who are you living for or better yet, who is living through you? Its very easy to lose sight of oneself trying to please their parents, guardians, coaches, co-workers and bosses. What are YOUR goals? What makes YOU happy? There is nothing wrong with making these people proud but do so on your own terms. Do so living out your life's dreams and not the ones cast on your by these people. Although most times these people want the best for you, the trouble comes when they believe what they want for you is the best... Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself and live the life you want. After all it is your life. These people may have brought you into this world, cared for you, given you once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, helped develop your craft... but at the end of the day you owe them NOTHING but respect. They did those things either because they were supposed to or because they wanted to...

Do you agree with Sidney Poirtier's character or his father? Can you guess who I agree with?
